Officials with the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Animal Health and Food Safety Services (AHFSS) are releasing updates on the status of a mare suffering from equine herpes virus in remote Tuolumne County. While the premises were secured, a horse that had been in contact with the infected mare participated in an ACTHA Mustang Ride on September 10, resulting in all participants in that event being notified of the risk by the state of California. All horses on the ACTHA ride will need to be kept in isolation and monitored for signs of the disease, according to CDFA.
